• Just a reminder to those of you who are used to everything being open all day and 24 hour supermarkets, here in France many shops and businesses close for 2 hours over lunchtime. Most supermarkets stay open but don't usually open until 8.30am or even 9am and shut about 7.30pm, and not all supermarkets open on a Sunday.

• In recent years the speed limit on some main roads was reduced, nationally, to 80km/h (50mph). This speed limit restriction has now been lifted and it has returned to 90km/h (68mph) but there are some departments who are still enforcing the 80km/h rule. Please make sure you are aware of the speed limit in the region you are travelling through
